Advanced Manufacturing
Advanced Manufacturing (ME 561/461) course provides an in-depth exploration of advanced manufacturing techniques from a materials science perspective. Students will gain comprehensive knowledge of the interplay between processing methods, material properties, and performance. Key topics include additive manufacturing, advanced machining and the role of materials characterization in optimizing these processes. Emphasis is placed on how different manufacturing techniques influence the microstructure and mechanical properties of metals. Students will also explore emerging technologies such as 3D printing of functional materials and laser processing. By the end of the course, students will understand how to select and manipulate manufacturing techniques to enhance material performance in real-world applications, with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation in materials engineering.
