Engineering materials science
Engineering materials science (ME370) course objective is to learn about some of the important concepts in materials science and engineering that relate material properties such as magnetism, toughness, strength, fatigue, creep resistance and thermal expansion to their microstructures (crystal, composite, dislocations, grain, and precipitate) in single- and multi-phase materials. These fundamental understandings about mechanical properties, characteristics, types of materials, heat treatment modifications and their usage, is important in the analysis of engineering materials behavior, that is essential forengineering design.
The course will explain aspects of materials science such as defects, phase transformations, and material processing that permit the material engineer to control microstructure and therefore properties.
